3/4 cup less 1 tablespoon warm water
2 large eggs, at room temperature beaten with 1 additional egg yolk
3 1/2 cups bread flour(plus 2-4 tablespoons more flour if very humid or rainy)
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon
6 tablespoons of sugar
1 1/4 teaspoons of bread machine yeast
1/2 cup softened butter
1 small plastic baby(If desired)
In order given, place all ingredients, except for the butter, in the bread machine pan. Set the machine for dough, and
as it starts mixing, add the butter, one tablespoon at a time.
When the dough cycle is finished, shape the dough into as long a piece as you can by holding it vertically, and gently
squeezing, over a lightly buttered cookie sheet. Shape the extruded dough into a large oval on the cookie sheet. Stick that
baby in there. Let the cake rise for 45 minutes. Bake in a pre-heated 350-degree oven for about 30 minutes.
Icing:
1 1/2 cups of confectioner's sugar
3 tablespoons of softened butter
1/4 teaspoon of vanilla
Few tablespoons of milk to desired consistency.
Colored Sugars
Stir all icing ingredients adding enough milk to spread inconsistency. Spread over warm cake. Sprinkle on colored sugar.
VERSION TWO
King Cake, Bread Machine
3/8 cup water
3/8 cup milk
1 egg
3 cups flour
4 tbs, stick butter or margarine
1/3 cup sugar
1 1/2 tsps. yeast
Combine ingredients into bread pan of bread machine. Select dough setting & press start.
When dough is ready, roll onto lightly floured surface into a 28 x 10 rectangle
1/6 cup cup softened butter
1/4 cup sugar mixed with 3/4 tsp. cinnamon
Spread with butter, then sprinkle with cinnamon sugar mix & roll jelly roll fashion, beginning with the long side.
Place on baking sheet & form a ring by placing ends of dough together.
Cover with a warm kitchen towel & p[lace in a warm place to rise for 30 mins. until double in size.
Once it rises bake the bread in a 350 oven for 20 minutes until golden.
Icing for King Cake
1 1/2 cups sifted confectioners sugar
1 1/2 tbs, melted butter
1 1/2 to 2 tbs, milk
1/4 Tsp. vanilla extract
red, green, blue, & yellow food coloring
Combine sugar & butter in medium bowl. Add milk, 1/2 tbs. at a time until desired consistency is reached. Add vanilla
& stir in briskly.
Divide mixture evenly into 3 small bowls. Tint one bowl with yellow food coloring, adding one drop red to make it gold
colored, one with green food coloring, & one with red & blue to make purple. Drizzle the cake in alternating bands
of the three colours.
